Artist Bio

Kazan was born in Lebanon and grew up in Bombay (Mumbai), India. His father, a pilot would bring back suitcases full of vinyl records from all over the world. Kazan would sift through his fathers motown, soul, disco, and world eclectic collection and play them until his parents had to lock them away so he could focus on his studies. His mother was deeply rooted within Bombay’s movie and music business and Kazan grew up being exposed to some of Indias biggest muscians, actors and directors. He was influenced greatly by his legendary Uncle Louis Banks, India’s godfather of Jazz music. Little did he know that these influences of East and West had given birth to what was to come later in life.

In the late 80′s Kazan moved to the Unites states and attended Garfield high school, the alma mater of Quincy Jones. It was here that he was exposed to rapping, turntabilism, break dancing and the free style street subculture that was Hip Hop. He was a part of RnB and Hip Hop singing and dancing groups that sounded like everything from Jodeci to New Edition and Too Short. He later ran into a group called Digable planets and Sir mix a lot and this chance encounter spurned him to pursue DJing and performing even further. He was the first South Asian DJ in Seattle often spinning his Bollywood-Hip-Hop mixes in mainstream clubs. At the time mainstream America was not familiar with Bollywood. Kazan was one of the pioneers in fusing international music with Hip Hop.

Fast forward to the late 90′s. His big break came when he was approached to do the VJ hunt on MTV. Beating out thousands of applicants, he appeared on MTV. That year he continued his DJing, working for some renowned entertainment companies and Djing for well known stars and venues. His travels brought him back to the states where he worked a suit and tie corporate job in the day and DJ’d at night.

Over the years he got into house music coming out of Chicago and Europe. With a never ending passion for all kinds of music, his international style of DJing has rocked crowds all over the world. Wether its a Hip Hop set, A bollywood set, a house set or a blend of it all, he does it with flare. 2009 was one of the best years, with DJ Kazan travelling all over the states to do shows, and holding down residencies in 3 of Seattle’s biggest clubs. His Bollywood Paparazzi is the biggest Bollywood event in Seattle held on the 3rd Fridays of every month at Trinity megaclub. The format is an energetic fusion of Bollywood, House and Hip Hop.  As he puts it – ” Dont come here expecting the typical. We push the boundries of music. One night you might hear a Bollywood, Bhangra Hip Hop set. The next time you might here a Bollywood electro and Trance set. Only one thing is garunteed …you will have an amazing time and leave saying wow! that was amazing!”
